Bevvies, Bites & Hot Summer Nights

Workshop - Bevvies, Bites & Hot Summer Nights

Summer nights should be savoured.

Join us for a delightful evening in The Kitchen Garden at The Leaf, where you'll immerse yourself in the world of herbs and heirloom veggies. Throughout the evening you can take part in guided garden tours, learn about what's growing in our Kitchen Garden, and savour the taste of authentic focaccia baked in our wood fire oven courtesy of Winnipeg Bread's Jared Ozuk. Each evening we will feature a performance by a local musician, adding a melodic touch to your garden experience. Whether you're a gardening enthusiast or a food lover, this event promises to nourish your body and soul.

Entertainment:

July 10: The Itay Gordon Quintet is a new group of five second-year students at the University of Manitoba. They aim to inform the straight-ahead jazz of the 1950s and '60s with modern sensibility and originality. The group consists of members Itay Gordon on the Trumpet, Kian Calinisan on the Alto Saxophone, Finn Hogan on the Guitar, Peter Olaleye on the Bass, and Jonas Martens on the Drums.

July 24: Alyssa and Dane, a dynamic musical duo, blend their talents seamlessly, offering a musical experience that spans genres and resonates with audiences of all ages. Whether performing heartfelt originals or reimagined classics, Alyssa and Dane deliver an unforgettable evening of music, perfect for any occasion.

Aug 7: Alyssa and Nathaniel first crossed paths in their roles as Dorothy and the Cowardly Lion in "The Wizard of Oz" at Rainbow Stage. When they aren't captivating audiences in Winnipeg, Alyssa is enchanting crowds on one of the world's largest cruise ships while Nathaniel performs as the lead vocalist of the Love Letters. Together, they also lend their voices to the vibrant sounds of new band, Prairie Hearts.

Jared Ozuk of Winnipeg Bread is a bread instructor with over 20 years of baking experience. He has worked in commercial bakeries and is a home baking enthusiast. His passion for bread is contagious and he loves passing that baking passion on to others. Jared specializes in artisan and sourdough bread, pizza, and sweet dough.

Journeys Through The Zoo

Workshop - Journeys Through The Zoo

Join us for Journeys Through the Zoo, an engaging program specially crafted for individuals living with dementia and their care partners. The program offers the opportunity to explore Assiniboine Park Zoo and its fascinating animals, as well as engaging with earth-friendly themes.

Come together with others to share cherished memories, take part in sensory activities, and enjoy group exercises. Be ready for both indoor and outdoor fun, so don't forget to dress for the weather and walking.

Journeys Through the Zoo is a collaborative effort between Assiniboine Park Zoo and the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, offering a warm and supportive environment for those living with dementia and their care partners to embark on new and exciting experiences.

 - Behind the Scenes Zoo Experiences

Enjoy a once in a lifetime experience behind the scenes at Assiniboine Park Zoo! We'll bring you up close with some of the Zoo's most charismatic creatures including polar bears, Amur tigers, harbour seals, cougars, and snow leopards! Experiences are guided by our Zoo educators and animal care professionals.

Journey to Churchill Tour | Assiniboine Park Zoo

 - Journey to Churchill Tour | Assiniboine Park Zoo

Prepare to connect with the Churchill landscape as we tour our Journey to Churchill exhibit in search of polar bears and other tundra animals. Your visit will take you through our Gateway to the Arctic building where we will learn about how the climate is changing around Churchill and then go in search of action steps that we can use here at home to help Manitoba bears.

After the tour, you are welcome to continue exploring the Zoo at your own pace.

Gardens at The Leaf

 - Gardens at The Leaf

Join us for a guided tour that will captivate your senses and bring you closer to nature. The six outdoor gardens at The Leaf all tell a story of how people connect with plants and how they bring meaning to our lives. Let us take you on a relaxed stroll through the gardens where you will learn the stories of each garden; the Indigenous Peoples Garden, Kitchen Garden, Sensory Garden, Performance Garden, Johnston Family Seasonal Garden, and The Grove.

Booking & Cancellation Policies

  • Registration fees are non-refundable (unless the program or tour is cancelled by Assiniboine Park Conservancy).
  • Pre-registration and payment for programs and workshops is encouraged to ensure we have sufficient staff and materials for attendees. Sorry, we cannot accept walk-ups for programs and workshops unless otherwise specified. Walk-ups are welcome for tours, space permitting.
  • Programs and workshops are subject to demand. If enrollment is insufficient, Assiniboine Park Conservancy reserves the right to cancel a workshop up to one week in advance.
